Enhancing My Self Care
is strange to be writing about how to improve my self-care. I believe wholeheartedly in the care of yourself and have written many blog posts about caring for oneself. Until a few months ago, I felt like I invested a lot in myself and my own self. I spent time / energy thinking through what I was eating, enjoyed my workouts per week, drank plenty of water, struggled to sleep as much as possible every night, listened to books during my daily commute, I have my hair and nails every few months, treated myself to new clothes here and there, and spent a relaxing time watching television, and blogs.
These last few months I realized how spread thin I am and I'm not refuel my mind, body and spirit as it should be. What is difficult, at least for me, it is that most actions require time and personal care that is not just something you (or any of us) I have more. Although it may not have more time, I'm seeing that I can make better use of the time I have, delete certain things on my plate, and you can add in actions to protect my welfare.
From my research, I decided to look at improving my self-care through 5 different lenses: physical, emotional , spiritual, personal and professional personal care. I have taken time to think through each of these areas and make a list of actions that give me joy, refreshment and energy. I recognize that the personal care of each person is different, but I hope to see mine help those who are also looking to invest more in their welfare. Improve my self-care has become a priority, and I know it will benefit those around me too.
Physical Personal Care
- enjoy a glass of cold water with a slice of lemon in the morning
- Take my water bottle me to and from work
- fill my water bottle throughout the working day
- See my doctor things I've been ignoring or postponing
- Continue working with Behavioral nutritionist
- Practice mindful eating
- stay away from foods that make me feel bad
- enjoy my workouts in OrangeTheory Fitness
- Take a spinning class occasionally
- Take evening walks with my family
Emotional Auto Care
- laugh more! Impractical watch wild
- Enjoy a night of weekly movies with my husband
- play with my daughter
- Hang out with girl friends
- Listen to books while driving to and from work
- Foster and do things for my friends and loved ones
- share my experiences through blogging as a way to connect with others
- plan vacations
- Start a single task

Spiritual Auto Care
- Practice yoga
- Oren
- Watch the sunrise and sunset
- listen to my favorite music
- Light more candles

Personal Personal Care
- Create monthly achievable goals

- Visit the farmers market on weekends

- Make the bed
- Spend some time alone
Professional Auto Care
- start your day job with a brain dump and a list of pending tasks
- Take a break for lunch every day

- Create a work schedule that will benefit my staff, students and family
I know that this list will change and grow over time. It felt good to take some time to think about what will really improve my wellbeing and how it might have to change my day a little. I will not be able to do most of these things every day, but I hope over weeks, months and years to allow these actions to become self-care habit. I want to invest more in myself and be my best, not only for me but for those around me.
