Returning to run after winter
Running is one of those activities that makes it easier and more enjoyable with time, but getting back into operation after the winter can be hard. Those first few weeks will be the question of why it has collected to run again, but I can not think of a better time to re-run the spring time! After a long winter, fresh air, blue sky, and flowers are so invigorating!
As much as I like to run throughout the year, and I took running in 2010 have been more than one broker spring and fall. Run before or after work in the winter is not realistic and I personally do not enjoy running on hot, humid summers. I'm more of a summer evening stroll with the kind of girl of the family.
spring Glancing ahead, I'm excited to race again! Not only do I need some fresh air, but I'm looking forward to the time to be out and to clear my head. Running gives me time to think and after a winter indoors, I'm looking forward to the time outdoors. I also miss running with my husband and am looking forward to that moment with him!
Getting started is always a challenge, mentally and physically, but here are the steps I am taking to prepare.
1. Get ready! I think it's important to have the right equipment. I bought a new pair of capri pants (Power Up Capri Athleta), I'm loving my new Saucony Amazon , and have my application RunKeeper ready to go. I personally love to run with a water bottle hand and use a belt full of water when you do longer runs.
2. sign up for a race! As much as I love to run just to run, I personally need a little motivation. Registration for races puts me in the slot and provides the motivation I need. There a number of races here in the DC area this spring and I plan to enroll in 2. Be sure to look up the races in your area!
3. Mark your calendar! I love going for a run on weekends, but running once a week usually is not enough for me to get into a good routine and be comfortable with running again. Running 2-3 times a week always seems to work better, so I like creating a midweek race and a race weekend.
4. Make it a date! I hated running with other people because of my insecurities, but I learned that if you find the right people, which can be very, very nice! Maybe that sounds horrible, but for me, some people give me anxiety because they are too fast for me. I think it's important to find someone that runs at the same pace you, stimulates good conversation, and ultimately, is a friend. I am grateful to have found some friends running in recent years. They make running fun!
5. Take it easy! I have to remind myself to take it easy and ease back on track. It is important to take it easy and be kind to yourself as you transition back after a long winter. I am a big fan of run / walk and found that simpler intervals, shifts back into operation.
6. track him! I love being able to see what I have accomplished. As I like to write how far you've run, my time and how I felt. Some years ago I bought daily racing and still use today.
7. Just have fun !! Simple as that!
Are you planning to race again this spring?
