Almost a year ago, I decided stop dieting . At that time, he knew exactly what he was doing, which was my goal, or even what "without dieting" meant, but he had decided to follow a diet. I was 7 months after giving birth, halfway through my Countdown to Summer Challenge , and was growing tired of having my macros (IIFYM). He was not only discouraged, but I was mentally and physically tired of dieting. I had reached a place where I could not go to a diet.

A month later, in order to reach my weight before pregnancy first birthday Magnolia, I decided to tackle another Scaleless summer . It may not have been following a diet, but Scaleless Summer gave me an approach that had lost since I decided to stop dieting. He gave me a deadline and that has worked very hard to get my weight before pregnancy . Playing football for DC divas, stop drinking coffee, which closely meets, watching what I ate, and making two cleanings juice helped me reach my weight before pregnancy through the first birthday magnolia. I was not following a diet, but it was definitely reduced my calories to lose weight, and I did.

Since reaching my weight before pregnancy I have not really known what to do with myself. I think I was so relieved to be back in my weight before pregnancy I have allowed time to just be and to understand what all this "no diet" meant. I enjoyed the birthday celebrations in October and run races celebrating Thanksgiving in November, and celebrate Christmas in our new home with Neal and Magnolia in December.

It was liberating to go more than three months without being focused on weight loss. He had not only failed to follow a diet, but had stopped focusing on weight loss together. At the end of 2015 it was really great, but since the new year my weight has fluctuated and I just do not feel as big as it did at the end of the year. Although it has been very liberating to live in a world without dieting, I knew it was time normalize my relationship with food and to really work through my problems with diet.

You see, I did not realize at the time, but was not dieting I was tired. What was very tired of was failing. He was tired of start and stop the diet after diet after diet. I was tired of all new beginnings and rarely reach my goals. I stopped dieting a year ago, not because I did not want to the diet, but because he was tired of failing. Of course I wanted to lose more weight, but after more than 20 years of dieting and rarely reach my goals, I was discouraged.

To be honest, weight loss without dieting is difficult for me to even comprehend. Weight loss is the result of ingesting fewer calories than you are burning, so in some form or fashion, you have to make sure you are eating less than your body is burning. Losing weight last summer was the result of focus and calorie reduction. Although it was not on Weight Watchers or other structured diet, but was still focused on weight loss.

The realization I had after a year without dieting is that the ability to move really far from the diet is through the normalization of their relationship with food. Weight loss by contrast, occurs through a real change in your diet, and takes the focus. While this may sound like common sense, the vicious cycle of weight loss is clearly something that many of us battle. We diet because we want a permanent change, but permanent change actually occurs only through normalization of their relationship with food and finding a lifestyle that you can live.

If normalize their relationship with food enough, eventually you will lose weight naturally, but it may take years. My behavioral nutritionist has reiterated again and again. Which it is a sloooooow way to the normalization of food, but worth the trip.

Although it has taken me 7 months to work through all this, I have an energy of refocusing I have not had since last summer. I enjoyed a lot of food last year, the food that I have not allowed to eat, and I am very grateful to be in a healthier state of mind. Now I know I can eat whatever I want, that has helped me reduce my compulsive eating habits. I still struggle, which is why I'm working with a nutritionist behavior, but I am so grateful to have escaped the prohibition of certain foods.

What I've learned this past year, through allowing myself to eat what you want, is that I feel better when we eat more whole foods based diet. Again, it's not rocket science, but it was important for me to understand how I felt when eating certain foods. And now I try to limit my intake of beans, stay away from certain cereals, and am working to eat more protein throughout the day. I also know that not eating enough most mornings and mid-days, leading you to eat more of what I need at the end of a day. Now I know how important it is for me to have a snack mid-morning and mid-afternoon.

In the end, this year has shown me that it will take a lot of work to change habits that have developed over the last 31 years. It will not be easy and will take a lot of work. whether I can live in freedom, keeping my unhealthy habits (emotional eating, binge eating, and eating out of boredom), or I can change over time and find true freedom.

I want to lose weight and therefore what is going to require me burn more calories than I am taking. Although it would be easier in many ways, to just follow a diet plan to lose weight, I know that will not lead to long-term change. I will continue working with a nutritionist to work behavior in food normalize and I create goals to help me remain focused. I'm still 30ish pounds away the weight that I felt healthier and in which I want to work to get back there.

Workout
This year was very good for me mentally. It gave me time to understand why I am over weight, which is why I have kept my weight, so using food to cope with different emotions. I have a lot of work ahead of me, but I'm grateful to have now the healthiest tools to succeed.

I have not lost weight by not dieting. I have still too many habits to improve before you can get to a place that naturally lose weight or maintain my weight just through my daily lifestyle. Weight loss occurs through change and I'm grateful to be in a place where change is happening. The change is very, very difficult, especially when you're changing the core of what you are, but instead of sitting, wishing to have a healthy lifestyle, I know I need to change and live a happy and healthy life.
