Hello everyone! I can not believe it's time that my monthly income report - these months are flying by! Now I know that some of you (probably like many of you) has zero interest in the behind the scenes to organize skinny or how much money I make. I know it seems strange to publish my monthly income here, but honestly, if not for other bloggers who share their travel blog when I started (for 5 years +), would never be where I am now. #true story. So I decided to start blogging to share my experiences back and pay it forward to aspiring bloggers, or maybe experienced bloggers who need some fresh ideas.
Now you may be thinking, "Why can not share their experiences without your salary?" Well, I'm not sharing my salary because I want to brag or say "HEY look at all the money I earn." I am sharing my income so you know I'm legit. I am a full-time blogger offered for my family Soley on the money I make on this blog. I want you to see for yourself that it is entirely possible to make a good living working as a blogger. It is not an easy job, but it is rewarding and can do.
If these reports blogs are not your cup of tea then do not offend me if you skip right over them. Maybe visit the popular post Preparing meals as Boss I shared last month - was a favorite reader. If you are interested in the business side of blogging then have a cup of strong coffee, sit back, and let me entertain a little. blog traffic is going to be the death of me. I know that's a bit dramatic and I know more than 800k page views per month is a lot, but as I said in previous reviews I want my traffic more than 1 million page views per month. I hope that does not sound whiney. Haha! I do not mean to complain or seem ungrateful, but I know I can do better because I have.
Last April my traffic hit 1.2 million page views. Actually, it was more than 1 million for the first half of 2015. However, this is interesting ... last year $ 1000 with less than 300k page views more. I'm pretty sure that the reason for this is because my ad was not optimized as it is now. I was trying to do everything myself and now I work with Adthrive that clearly makes a big difference.
Additionally, last April I made less than $ 50 off Amazon. This April did more than $ 1,000 Ummm big difference. So it's not that I'm not grateful for all my page views, but if I had traffic did last year, more knowing what I know now, my income would be much higher. I mentioned a few months ago that my goal was to double my traffic this year. That's still my goal.
Before we talk more about the traffic I want to talk a little about my book. My sales went up by a few hundred dollars this month. I drove one of my food plan posts and I think that helped with increased sales. However, I spent $ 141 on advertising and my sales went up by $ 300 so after spending only $ 150 extra I more or less. I know I can do better. I talked last month about my lack of marketing strategy with my eBook. One of the goals I had this month was to use my email better. Specifically, I wanted to put together a course or some other type of subscriber only content email. I just started using Convertkit to my email service and love it! Like love there. I know it has great potential to connect with readers and sell my book, just tap the power. This month flew by, so do not focus on it as he wanted. However, the month is not over yet, so I plan to take some time in the next week or so to brainstorm and outline a strategy for my ebook.
Let's move on to Amazon Associates. I am very happy with the way Amazon Associates is performing for me. For a long time I did pennies out of them and is now consistent with what $ 1000 + per month. Personally, I think Amazon Associates is a great fit and everyone wins. I naturally link to the products I'm using and if readers are interested, want to learn more, and / or purchase just a click on over to Amazon and grab it. I think it fits perfectly into the content speak. I'm sure as my traffic goes up so will my sales. There is great potential with Amazon and, as I said in previous earnings reports , I wish this is one of my main sources of income for the year end.
Back to traffic. My traffic generating strategies have not changed since my previous earnings reports. I intend to focus on the content, email list, and social media. In that order. I write content that will focus on tutorials, habits and recipes. Based on my Google Analytics which is what my readers want and that's what we give them. OYS the other writers are focusing on exercise, the recipe raids, and other issues of food / healthy habit. Also I have a new series from June 1 spotlighting readers who have lost more than 30 pounds. So it will not be a lot of content from the crew organized skinny. This alone will help increase traffic or at least maintain their consistency.
already spoke email, but I'll just say again that I will be working on several strategies to increase my subscribers email and leverage the power of my email list.
And then there was social media. Does anyone else feel like spinning your wheels with social media? I feel I'm not using it in the best way. My blog posts are shared by all day, but that does not generate traffic or commitment I feel I should, especially considering that I have almost 400k followers FB 63 k tastes and Pinterest. Do not misunderstand me, get a good amount of traffic, but for the "numbers" I should be more. I need to focus my thoughts back around my social media channels. I want all my channels to feel more like a community and not just a place to share messages. Make sense? I'll talk more about this in a future post.
