What I learned after eating only plant-based foods for a week
I am known among my family and friends as a diehard fan food, and live in the city of New York has allowed me to explore this passion even more. Since moving here, I have made it my mission to experience all the kitchens and restaurants of this great city has to offer, keeping my bank account afloat -. A feasible objective still a challenge
During the last six months, I have been happily jumping from Italian spots hip in the East Village to burger joints trendy Midtown, but in recent weeks, she had begun to feel slow and bloated erratically. When symptoms do not go away, I considered my options: juice cleaning, Whole30-esque diet , or abandonment of my self-indulgent ways cold turkey. Realistically, I would never be able to survive in the juice and raw vegetables, eat like a caveman is not my cup of tea, and I'd rather give up my dignity to give up something I love (food, of course).
Coinciding with this dilemma, a friend of mine had just left his corporate job to start in the business of being Sakara Life . She explained it as a healthy food program partum serve the tastes of the models (Lily Aldridge is a fan) and celebrities. Tenders, provide nutritionally designed plant foods, full and satisfying with healthy ingredients and a variety of health benefits. My family is in the business of products, which have been encouraged to "eat the rainbow" Since I was little. Plants, fruits and vegetables are some of the most colorful food groups; the richer the color, the higher the nutrient content. plant-based diets are also effective because of the shape of hydration are, which is very important when it is balanced nutrition.
After talking with the co-founders Sakara Tingle and Danielle Whitney Duboise, who became more interested in committing to a plant-based (at least in the short term) diet. It was explained that the program requires not meet the strict rules, but rather, that uses food as medicine. "We are not they showing another form of a diet," they agreed. "Food has to become food instead of the enemy." This provoked the enthusiasm of me simply because of my attraction for food. So when I opened my door the day of delivery of finding a freezer bag fully stocked full of bright and unfamiliar dishes, the experiment began. I was sold.
Related: I survived my first soup clean (and like it)
Day 1
- Breakfast: Chia and protein coconut waffles with syrup cardamom
- lunch: noodles with sauce kale sunflower and capers piccata
- Dinner: Sakara bowl land
Day 2
- Breakfast: flour Thai sweet porridge with mango and milk kaffir coconut
- Lunch: Medley bow Japanese iris pickled carrots and seaweed salad
- Dinner: Sakara burrito bowl
Each day also includes water in the morning, with rose water and trace elements for beautification, and water night with chlorella and trace elements for detoxification.
All meals for both days were very tasty and surprisingly filling, which led me to my first aha moment that healthy food, in fact, may be satisfactory. It was also a treat not to worry about cooking or planning my meals for two full days, relieving me of the anxiety of shopping and cooking. But the most striking effect was that the program had been feeling discomfort seemed to disappear almost immediately. I could feel the difference between this food and what we normally eat, it was a wakeup call that had probably been avoiding.
Something really impressive about the food was that it was part of a label that explains the elements of the dish and what makes it rich in nutrients. So I was not only taking part in a healthy diet, but it was also educating myself. I never imagined being the guy who could embrace a diet completely herbal, but when my deliveries ended Sakara, I made my own food preparation based on program guidelines. It was challenging to say the least, especially because I am not very familiar with all elements of the natural foods - I had never heard of the terms kefir or cardamom before my life.
you started with ingredients that I'm used to use, such as spinach and sweet potatoes, and found solace in pies black beans because they felt like eating a hamburger - old habits die hard, you know? For breakfast I kept cut oatmeal and honey, but changed with fruit every day for variation. I also was both sweet and savory snacks on hand, such as dried cranberries and kale chips, to curb any craving that emerged throughout the day.
The week was quite pleasant and less traumatic than I expected, but I must admit it did not take long to start in the absence of my usual routine. What made it worthwhile was knowing that I put healthy, healthy food in my body and I truly felt better as a result. I can not say that this will be the norm, but certainly not the last time.
