No gymnast stop Gabby Douglas - in fact she is defying the odds. After his show-stopping performance at the 2012 Olympics, she has her eye on a new prize: make Team USA for the second time. While it may not seem strange to us - Gabby of only 20, after all - in the world of competitive gymnastics, being past their teens it is similar to retirement.
"When I was on the podium at the 2012 Games and lowered my head so the gold medal could be placed around the neck, I thought of many things," Gabby said. "I thought of all the sacrifices that had to be done, all the obstacles and all the time spent to achieve my dream that I said to myself." It was all worth it. "It was also at that moment I knew my goal to be in the team for the Olympic Games Rio 2016 was possible."
With only two months to Rio (Aug. 5, to be exact), Gabby says that enthusiasm is palpable and the work is intense. Given its focus, talent and determination, we can not imagine his not join the team after Olympic trials are underway in July. "I'm stronger physically, mentally and emotionally, and I'm training hard so I can make my dream come true once again," he said.
"I'm stronger physically, mentally and emotionally, and I'm training hard so I can make my dream come true once again." There is no way to really understand the hard work that goes into making an Olympic athlete, but take a look at your daily schedule is a start. Not for the faint of heart, here's rigorous training program Gabby as told in their own words.
- I wake up at 7 in the morning every day Practice begins at 8 am, so I have an hour to get ready, have a good breakfast, and spend some time with my grandmother. - With love to call her Miss Carolyn. I'd rather eat a small breakfast before training. I do a lot of twists and turns, so I can imagine why I like to keep my light meals, especially first thing in the morning. Today, I'm having a small cup of steel cut oatmeal and a cup of special tea Miss Carolyn. I grab my gym bag, water bottle, lunch, and keys and out the door.
- 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. - This is what we refer to as the morning workout Four straight hours of grueling action, without stopping .. Although it is very hard work , I love what I do. I'm putting the finishing touches on my new floor routine and perfect my new skills on beam, vault and uneven bars.
- is noon; that means it's time for my two-hour lunch. And this is a good thing, because I have hunger after exerting so much energy! Saco my lunch bag and head of the mats to sit, eat, talk and laugh with two of the other girls in my training group. Of course, I also use this time to relax and jump on the social media. Today's lunch: a small spinach salad with avocado, eggs, chicken breast grilled and Thai peanut dressing. Again, I do not like eating too much because I have to return to a formation of 2 p.m.
- The afternoon workout is two and a half hours. I focus on two events during this time while incorporating more conditioning and stretching. Conditioning includes: Climbing rope 12 feet without using [my] legs, squats, plenty of leg lifts, sit-ups, and different types of squats and squat jumps. I also work on sections of my back, shoulders and legs.
- me to go to home around 16:30 Between the sweat, chalk, tape, and pain in the muscles, the first thing I do when I get home is to take a good shower, hot! Every few days, I also do an ice bath, which is very beneficial.
- I like to catch up with my family before dinner. Almost always FaceTime my mother, my two sisters and my brother. We are all very busy now; between preparations for Olympic Trials, our new show, Douglas family Gold , working on my line leotard, my new keyboard Gabbymoji, and some other projects in the works, I'm so grateful to have this time to spend with them. I miss being at home, but I know they're always there for me and are my biggest supporters. Tonight for dinner, Miss Carolyn made delicious salmon and sauteed vegetables with pasta. I am grateful for my grandmother. She wears so well of me.
- As I like to go to bed early. I love to relax a little text messages to friends and family, and just listen to music. Every night, I meditate, and sometimes I just be quiet visualize my routines. I have about eight hours of sleep each night. Then I wake up and do it all again. But for now, it's time for a rest and sweet dreams of Rio!
