Code of Conduct Tribunal announces three-day trial for the continuation of the corruption case of Saraki
The Code of Conduct Tribunal (TMC) has announced that its prosecution of Senate President Dr. Bukola Saraki for alleged false assets declaration will restart from June 7 until June 9.
The announcement came in a press release issued on Thursday and signed by Ibrahim al-Hassan, Head of Public Relations of the CST. According to the statement, the matter will continue the examination of the main prosecution witness, Michael Wetkas.
The decision to adjourn to the new dates was sequel to the result of a written request council lead processing, Rotimi Jacobs (SAN), which Wetkas was scheduled to testify before the Federal Supreme Court, Abuja on June 1, in another corruption trial involving former governor of Jigawa, Sule Lamido.
The letter dated June 1 was directed to the Secretary of the CCT asking for a postponement.
The letter indicated that the matter was Wetkas away from CCT was previously postponed to June 1 for continued interrogation of Wetkas as a prosecution witness in relation to the high-profile corruption trial of former governor Jigawa state, licked.
"We, however, regret to inform the Honorable Court today, as it is billed to testify before the Federal High Court, Abuja, (J. Ademola)," the statement said.
The CCT had hinted on Wednesday that the second member of the court had called in sick and could not attend the trial.
Also today, the Court of Appeal in Abuja adjourned until July 18 the hearing of an appeal against the CCT by Saraki.
Today's statement coincides with SaharaReporters revelation that there was no truth to news reports Saraki's trial had been postponed "indefinitely."
