Derailers - summer vacation
+ Giveawayblog post today is sponsored by Pure Protein . All thoughts, experiences and opinions are mine.
My first four weeks ago on a diet have been really great, but quickly had to learn one thing: unexpected things happen! You can plan ahead, tracking your meals, and moves more, but life is full of stops and roadblocks. As I have shared a lot this week, I'm learning to look further down the road rather than allow setbacks along the way derail me. Life is full of unexpected events, why not learn to get through them and find success in life?
In the last four weeks I made last minute plans with friends for dinner, they have had to stay home with a sick child, attended several events working full day (hola meals ), went on a mini road trip with the family, and spent four days in Dallas on business. My month was full of bumps in the road, but it has taken me a long time to know that these events do not have to derail me or my goals! I can enjoy the moments along the way, using the tools that I know will help me to succeed, and no matter what, do not choose to be hard on myself. You may have all the tools in the world to succeed and sometimes things still do not go as planned.
Whether your children are closing the school year or who is preparing for a trip to the beach, the summer holiday season is upon us! Summer is such a happy time, but for those who are trying to lose weight, but can also be a difficult time to stay the course. That is, who does not love everyone, daisies barbecue, evening drinks and frozen yogurt that brings the summer? I think we've all been there. We make plans to attend BBQ from a friend and thought to ourselves: "Okay I'm going to attend the barbecue and stay on track I will eat a burger without bread, a spoonful of potato salad and watermelon for dessert!.." the next thing we know we have eaten not just a burger, but also a hot dog, are deeply elbow macaroni salad, we could not refuse a slice of famous apple aunt Mary, and washed us all with beer Of summer. How do you go from having a plan to eat anything and everything?
is a very long time to learn this has taken, but I really think that is the restriction that makes us so quickly derail. I had to learn that it's okay to treat an event or vacation as moments in time. Rather than being restrictive, I am learning to let me enjoy the moment and be selective in how I would. Instead of having both potato salad and apple pie, maybe just to have one (and obviously stay with potato salad because it's awesome). I'm far from perfect, and I have mastered this approach, but I'm realizing that you can still enjoy experiences and move toward your goals.
To my road trip with the family a few weeks ago, I went into it wanting to stay on track 100 percent of the time. I did not prepare beyond knowing that I would be eating out for all meals and would have to make healthy choices if I was going to lose weight. This road trip made me realize that I was being too hard on myself and I did not a good job of preparing for my little vacation. This past weekend when I was in Dallas, knew he would have to work to stay on track, so planned ahead. I put my workout clothes and decided that I would start the day with a visit to the gym, I brought a lot of healthy snacks from home for my flight and time in the hotel, cradled by the grocery store when I first arrived in order collecting healthy foods they might have in my hotel mini-fridge, and chose meals would eat early. Decide ahead of time when I'd eat out I worked very well and I really enjoyed my meals with colleagues.
I am also very glad I brought snacks from home. As I was in Dallas on business, I needed protein packed snacks to get me through long working meetings, it extends between meals, and flights to and from Dallas. In my bag work threw me a box of my favorite bars of pure protein (chocolate chip !!) and some of its new Crunch Pure Protein bags (these are a must buy !! Also I added to a cup of ice cream ... so delicious !!). Pure protein products were perfect for my flight and made a big difference during my afternoon slump. Both appetizers really helped me stay on track and avoid derailment while I was out of town.
My travels this past month helped me realize that I can succeed during the trip. Now I know I can go on summer vacation, prepare as best you can (training equipment, healthy food choices, snacks packaged protein, and a free mentality of guilt), and continue to move forward with my health goals as transition back into life after the holidays.
Summer vacation does not have to derail! You own it, prepare for it, and enjoy it. Either way, you enjoy the sunshine and all the memories !! You're worth it!
