A few weeks had 4 days for back to back meetings all day. My first two days of meetings provided lunch and then my last two days of meetings provide three meals, as we were in Baltimore. I was happy to not have to think about packing meals these days and focused on the options I had more control over (workouts and meals outside my meetings).

As I shared concluded my first two days of meetings , which struggled with what was offered for lunch during my first two days of meetings. By lunch time came, I was super hungry. Do not carry snacks either day and ate everything that was in our box lunch. Each box had a sandwich (roast beef or turkey on a croissant), a small bag of chips, a piece of fruit, a biscuit, and a bottle of water. I walked away from the bowls of candy on Wednesday, but on Thursday also snacked a sweet after eating.

After the publication of that position, some of you asked why not pack my own lunch. If I did not know what was to be provided both days, why do not I just prepare a healthy lunch and bring some snacks with me? The truth is I never thought about it. In retrospect, it makes perfect sense to prepare a healthy lunch and avoid the temptations and high calorie options provided, but at the moment, not even crossed my mind.

is a little embarrassing that I did not even think to pack my own lunch was an option, but if I'm being honest, refuse food free is not something I'm used to. Over the years I have developed healthier habits, but you really opened my eyes to the need to address my struggles with free food. I work in an environment where there are a lot of free food. During certain times of the year, you could literally eat three meals for free at work. Of course I've rejected before the free food, but there are certain situations where I do not think twice before accepting the free meal. Lunch packets a few weeks ago were an example of this. free food allows me to save money and give me access to foods that normally do not eat, I like.

I was eating very successful during my second tranche of all meetings a day, but it was much more aware of the need to reject several free foods. I refused snack two days and was selective with food he ate at each meal. The lunchboxes on Wednesday and Thursday reminded me that I have to bring snacks and it is okay to be more selective of what they like, even if the food is free.

It was not until last month that I realized how much of a struggle free food for me. It is very difficult for me to turn down free food, especially when it is good food or foods that do not normally have access. I'm pretty good about not letting too tempting food in my house and not eat out often. I've always said that my struggle really boils down to portion control, even with healthy foods, but last month my eyes opened to my struggles with free food.

I personally find two fights against when it comes to free food. First, it is very easy to eat without thinking when offered free food. Even if I'm not hungry, it's hard to turn down free food when available. Take for example breakfast. I usually eat breakfast at home around 6:45. By the time I get to work and free breakfast is offered at a meeting at 9:30 am, it is difficult to turn down the volume. I justify eating a bagel or 1/2 boiled eggs. The free meal is not necessarily bad food, but becomes calories my body needs. Programs like Weight Watchers help me keep my habit of eating under control, but this is still something I have to fight every time food is offered for free and I'm not hungry. The second fight is when free food and have to choose to eat instead of healthier options. This is what I faced a few weeks ago during my meetings. I did not think twice before eating free lunch prepared, although packing my own lunch was the best option, because I'm trying to lose weight. I saw the sandwich, chips, cookies and something that rarely stopped to eat and took full advantage of it. I paid the price when weighed in this week and despite choosing to eat those lunchboxes ... or at least all two days.

I am grateful for your insight and comments regarding my decision to eat the free food. His words made me think and I had to recognize the need to address this issue. There will be plenty of opportunities to eat free food at work the next academic year, but I want to be more aware of moving forward. Almost always bring snacks and lunch to work every day, so I really should not need to eat the free food. I know I can plan ahead when you choose to eat the free food at work, just like I did when I went to Baltimore for my meetings. I have only to recognize the fight and be more aware.

I have a lot to learn, but I'm thankful for my eyes have been opened to this problem.
