RUN 10 FEED 10 TESTIMONIAL
by action hero Health of Women Sara Ziemnik
I had the honor to be a representative of "Heroes Action "magazine Women's Health for three years. One of my favorite things to make heroes of action is to get involved with RUN 10 FEED 10 and the FEED Foundation! At first I was discouraged that Cleveland (the best city in the universe, although they can not be impartial) was not one of the host cities for RUN 10 FEED 10 events . But after some thought, a little planning and a little work, I was able to put together a local event that helped raise hundreds of thousands of dollars and meals. As a high school teacher, I try to always tell my students to "think globally and act locally", and advancing traveled 10 10 events have helped to really put this word into action.
First, I have chosen a date for our Fun Run ! I chose early October so it could be part of training for those who have a fall marathon or half marathon. We are very fortunate to have such amazing park system here in Cleveland, so I knew that finding a safe route would be a piece of cake. My next step was to contact shops and businesses operating in the local area to see if they would be willing to support the functioning of fun somehow. As expected, they were very impressive in helping not only to share the fun run, but support for RUN 10 FEED 10 with donations and loot for my runners!
I created a Facebook page called " CLERUN10FEED10 " and he began to publicize the event to recruit friends and members of local working groups. It was a very easy way to get the word out! He also hit me up Twitter and Instagram and tried to contact groups as "Mothers Run This Town" to see if he could encourage others who could not make my fun race to run on their own. He had a good number of people who register to run your own 10K on another day, which was great news! The good thing is that RUN10 can be done anywhere and anytime. busy working parents, travelers, or those who have difficult times can squeeze this in your day and provide 10 meals for hungry people in our community. It is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate health and serve others.
race week, I worked with Dewey Pizza Shop to stay overnight "CLERUN10FEED10" where a proceeding of all sales went to the FEED Foundation. I saw a lot of my friends, their families, and even my students to Dewey that night, and the support of Dewey was simply phenomenal. They were able to donate a large sum of money to the FEED Foundation and provide hundreds of meals!
after the race was held at another local establishment: at the corner. The brunch was amazing, and as we all enjoyed our food which was amazing to know that part of our bill also came to support the FEED Foundation. Adding to support local businesses help turn our economy, while supporting food banks here in CLE to help eradicate hunger in our community.
I am very proud of the efforts of the Women's Health magazine in its participation in the FEED Foundation. Hunger is a world's largest solvable problem. This fall, and get your friends and head to your RUN 10 FEED 10 Carrera ... or simply start your own! Making a difference, one mile at a time.
