Your coworkers bring the cakes and cookies in raggedy, while you are on your weight loss journey because they can not help it. Literally. That, in particular, is literally human nature.
In reading an article in Harvard Business Review on research in ethical buyers, and how to annoy people more than they inspire (organic, free cage, fed ? grass blue jeans, anyone / Sarcasm), I did a double take when reading the following:

Reczek: we already know from research beyond most consumers will choose not to look at the ethical practices of a company when selecting products. Our objective was to study the consequences downstream. When you decide not to seek information about an ethical company, but then see someone else who does, how do you feel about that? What are the social consequences of seeing someone do the ethical after you remained willfully ignorant? What we find is that people put on those "other ethical", classifying them as anything more boring, weirdest, and these less attractive all really negative things.

Two things can happen when people see someone doing something moral. Or they can be inspired by that person or denigrate him. They can do the latter because of something psychologists call theory of social comparison. It is argued that we all have a general tendency to compare ourselves with others. If you see someone who is better than you in some dimension, such as ethics, it feels threatened. It makes you feel bad about yourself. One way to overcome that is to put the other person. Until our study, this had not been explored in the context of ethical consumption. He predicted that this negative effect, because of how people feel ethics is an important part of their identity would occur.
Why were you so sure subjects would act negatively? Why you not think people are inspired by ethical buyers?
Most studies of what is called moral elevation when you see someone acting ethically and want to emulate that behavior, they have looked to acts exceptional, like starting a soup kitchen to help the homeless. But maybe I really do not care about the ethics of how they were made.
Our preliminary tests show that people think are important ethical attributes. So it's not not care about them. If you know that something has been done in terrible working conditions, which probably they will not buy. It's just rather not know. Julie Irwin did pioneering work on this idea. It was found that people use information ethically if just ahead of them, but they will not find. It is a defense mechanism to avoid having to deal with the bad feelings that arise if discovered horrible practices. [ source ]
call me crazy, but I can not help feeling that this applies to fitness and weight loss, too. (It is literally applies to supplies of sustainable food, too, but that's another post for another day.)
One of the things I've learned over the years is that human beings crave community . We share the best parts of ourselves, or what we believe is the best and most positive parts of ourselves, hoping that it will draw people closer to us and validate our success not with the literal praise but with camaraderie. (This is in contrast to the destructive habit of throwing up everything evil and bad about himself, hoping that would push people.)
Therefore, when you share with your co-worker, someone I could not've been a friend has chosen him out of work, but live with it anyway because both have the common goal of getting paid-this positive and exciting that made given this result, of course, comparisons starts in your mind.
The comparison is the way we calculate and understand our own perspectives and realistic place in the world. It is the way that self-assess and essentially evolve when we have to. Except when there are barriers that prevent us from doing-a person who 'can not' eat better because they believe it is "too expensive" for example, can choose to go to the hostile route rather than simply encouraging you without feeling threatened or what's worse:. try to eradicate the threat to their way of thinking by that or the decision to end the friendship sabotage
The paragraph on "moral elevation" and active choices people make really should drive home. People often see "take candy from office" or "eat cupcake office" or "not put in the effort to lose these pounds" as an option active , especially considering how often people do not want to know or hear about how bad or bad it is to do so, as before. People do not care about the safety of the food they eat, but what they want to hear about it when their brain chemistry could be them saying "yes?"
I think most people want to be seen as healthy and health of mind, but will tell you that the ice cream / muffins / Jolly Ranchers * are too delicious .
