Until 2008, pediatricians recommend that parents wait until the child was 3 years old before introducing peanuts in an attempt to reduce the allergy. Experts hypothesized that young immune systems were not prepared to handle common allergens such as peanuts, eggs or nuts. In 2008, however, the American Academy of Pediatrics recanted this advice.
