Brown adipose tissue - Possible therapy for weight loss
Have you ever thought that fat could help burn calories additional yes. Excess fat in the body's need to produce heat used so termed as brown adipose tissue. This may be one of the most promising natural ways to avoid excess accumulation of fat. But unfortunately this brown adipose tissue decreases with age and activity needs to be restored so that it can exert its effect burning calories.
First let us understand everything about the brown adipose tissue, their origin and function. The tank in which all fat deposits in the body are called adipose tissue. This tissue acts as a cushion and insulates the body. There are mainly two types of adipose tissue:
- white adipose tissue - there are two different types of fat cells known as white fat and brown and white fat is probably best known for the people as white fat cells can store large amounts of energy. When excess calories that extra energy for cells of white fat and stored in fat consumed. And eventually these white fat cells increase in size and also increase in number. They are the sort of point that when you look for someone who is obese or overweight, have a lot of white fat.
- brown adipose tissue (BAT) - Brown fat, on the other hand, its function is to generate heat for use that lipids and convert the chemical energy into heat. This process consumes a lot of energy. human newborns have an estimated 30 g of BAT, which represents 1% of body weight. As children leave the first decade of life, the wide distribution of BAT declines.
In infants the BAT tissue is known to protect from the cold. In cold weather, they tend to shake and this leads to the generation of heat (thermogenesis) which in turn brings body temperatures back to normal. This effect is facilitated by the BAT tissue in babies to handle the stress that occurs due to cold weather,
The brown adipose tissue appears to confer special advantages such as:
- Ability to survive and especially to be active during cold periods
- ability to survive the cold stress of birth and
- promoting our survival on diets low in essential macronutrients
Previously it was thought that only the brown adipose tissue is present from birth through childhood with little or no activity that persists into adulthood. But the most recent data have shown that adults have brown adipose tissue also, some more than others. It is this correlation that obese individuals have less brown adipose tissue and individuals who are thin tend to have more. There is a correlation with obesity and diabetes, so that individuals who are protected from diabetes tend to have more brown fat.
BAT is conceivable that the activity could reduce the risk of developing obesity as fat reserves are used for thermogenesis, and may have value in reducing weight.
Following the growing epidemic of obesity, researchers are looking for ways to stimulate this brown adipose tissue. One way to do this would be to reprogram fat cells and the other way is to stimulate these cells. They have to be activated and thus normally activated by cold or can be activated with drugs.
If the activation of tissue BAT is successful, then it may emerge as one of the anti-obesity therapy more promising.
