NFL players are elite athletes training hard and need to feed their right muscles to stay injury-free and on top of their game. To what extent do they need to eat during the season? And what kind of food they eat?
The answer to these questions really depends on the individual athlete and playing position. Quarterback typically needs 4,000 to 6,000 calories a day. defensive tackle can eat about 8,000 calories per day! During the season teams usually deliver meals and snacks for players consisting of healthy fats, carbohydrates, proteins and healthy servings of fruits and vegetables.
Breakfast
Starting the day with a balanced meal of lean protein fruit vegetables and healthy carbohydrates allows players to practice and play hard . NFL day starts with breakfast as much as you can eat, which usually consists of some kind of heart of whole grain cereal, whole wheat toast, flax seeds, whole fruit, lots of sauteed vegetables with boiled eggs or omelets. This is what they eat NFL players in the morning:
- Egg whites
- Avena
- turkey bacon
- fresh fruit
- whole grain cereals
- whole grain toast
- Tortillas with sauteed vegetables
- yogurt
Snacks
NFL players have at least two healthy daily snacks consisting of:
- the whole fruit
- turkey meatballs
- protein shake and shakes
- nut butters and nut
- hummus on toasted bread without gluten with chopped avocado and turkey bacon
lunch
lunch for many NFL players served as a sandwich, wrap or salad. Favorites in the league include:
- hamburgers without turkey bread
- The salads with protein
- grilled chicken and vegetables
- Cut into pieces of chicken or tuna salad
supper
dinner for NFL players consists of lean protein, vegetables and healthy carbohydrates:
- bison burger with sweet potatoes and mixed vegetables
- Turkey meatloaf with pesto pasta and sauteed vegetables
- lean beef lasagna earth
- chicken breast
- steak and potatoes
While we mere mortals may need not consume as many calories as NFL players, we can certainly take a look at your menu and focus on eating more lean meats, healthy fats, good carbs and lots of vegetables.
