Their beliefs are wrong. Are you willing to change?
"Your opinion is irrelevant! I'm right! Look at this studio!"
already try Paleo vs vegetarian, Stretch vs Mobility, fat vs. carbs, Cardio vs. Strength, Star Trek vs Star Wars, or Captain America vs Iron Man , we all have belief systems that make us accept certain ideas and immediately disparage others.
go to any item on any of the above topics and spend five minutes in the comments section, and you can see people or defending article or stringing and destroying the other side.
Can both sides right? Can both parties are wrong? Why is it that every time we read something that goes against what we say, you stick your head in the sand, ostrich style and discredit him, only to turn around and proudly share any news that reaffirms our belief?
would you be able to recognize when you held the wrong belief? Do you have the clarity to maintain strong when it is in fact, right?
Get the right mindset to discern what is real and what is BS compels us to admit two things to ourselves:
- Do not know shit.
- Nobody else know shit, either!
Nobody knows anything
Throughout history, all what we know and have learned it is generally based on the work of others before us.
When we learn something as simple math, we take what we are taught as fact and it makes sense :. 1 + 1 = 2. Awesome
On other issues, whether geographical or physics or biology, humans have taken what we have been taught as fact, without realizing that these facts are not in "objective" reality. Sometimes they are partially true, and sometimes they are totally, 100%, far off the mark. For example, people took thousands of years ago the earth was flat and that was only a few thousand years. Many of them based on their careers or work life operating under these assumptions until someone asked and tested, "Well, maybe this is that we are on round?"
Mind = blown.
If you're like me, you look at the people who were certain that the world was flat and thought, "ignorant fools! How can you be so blindly wrong for so long and not even realize it? "it's easy to look back in the" dark years "and say" they did not know any better ... "but what if one of the universal truths of today aren 't really true, either !?
Ruh Roh.
Imagine if someone came and said something that conflicted with his worldview in a serious way; as if gravity was a complete illusion . You can simply feeling our natural aversion to anything that contradicts what we think know . You block out, discredit, and / or try to find someone to show that the wrong person to feel able to return to it all makes sense.
That's a dangerously (very) old school way of thinking, and we need to be better nerds! Elon Musk, most popular in the world right now and CEO of both nerd " reasoning from first principles " Tesla Motors and Space-X, champions - also known as "doing one course , question everything ":
I think in general thought process of people are too bound by convention or analogy with previous experiences. It is rare that people try to think of something in a first base principles. They say, "We will do because it has always done it that way." Or they will not because "Well, nobody has done that, so it does not have to be good." But that is only a ridiculous way to think.
reasoning from first principles is not practical for most of us for most things (we accept advice and expert knowledge in certain fields or those we trust, since we have time to reason from first principles). However, keep this concept in mind can help see our own blind spots in all areas of life.
If we are not careful, sometimes our collective human nature can lead us through some very wrong ways. Not that we would everrrrrr do such a thing!
As Tim Urban hilariously noted in wait, but why , this is perfectly illustrated in the history of children The Emperor's New Clothes:
