A blood type, or group, is a classification of the blood depending on whether or not inherited antigens reside on the surface of red blood cells. Antigens are foreign substances which induce an immune response and interact with specific antibodies in our immune systems.

It was found that red blood cells could lead to two different antigens, called A and B.
