Q & A Wednesday: What does being
'skinny fat?'Q: Hi Erika! I love the blog! I wanted to ask, a bulletin board that I am apart from having a lot of women who use the term "skinny fat" and do not understand what it means and when I asked, he barked at me on because I do not 'do not understand. I thought you were always more to be thin or fat, not both. What is the problem?
This is the deal.
Many people refer to themselves as "skinny fat" when you're talking about being small in size, but not necessarily lean or muscular. It is basically the condition of being thin, but with a high percentage of body fat.
The body mass index and how it is used in modern health care gives people the impression that those of us with readings from "normal" BMI have nothing to worry about. And, due to "underweight" is poorly researched or villainized the way " on weight" is, almost everyone with a non-overweight reading and nonobese feel like they have nothing to to worry.
Apart from the fact that the conditions of high chronic disease standard diabetes, high blood pressure, and so on-HAGUE exclusively for those who are overweight, the truth is that having a high percentage of body fat regardless of size, it is a concern. Not an alarmist, but in a "we need to think about how our individual bodies respond to aging" kind of way.
This is not really something we've had to think before, but our world is changing. Our country and the industries that employ us are changing. Many of us are not so practical anymore. We are running machines, machines Manning, monitoring machines. Now, we have to think about how our bodies respond to sedentary lifestyles and adulthood and our golden years.
As we age, our muscle mass often exhausted because we are much less active than we were in our twenties or thirties. "Settling" refers to much more than relationships, all of you. Many of us slow down, and some of us come to a standstill. Before we knew it, we are losing muscle mass and get into our older years who can not do many of the things we take for granted, like standing unassisted, up and down stairs without assistance, bending over to pick things without help.
Those of us who work with active jobs in our senior years often had the muscle to show for it. We could not've been bodybuilding types of super thin, but we have been able to maintain our own in our own for a good amount of time sufficient. Now, things are very different.
This is part of why people who otherwise are thin are becoming aware of the consequences of having a high percentage of body fat. Apart from the fact that there is aesthetic component of the appearance of a fitspo chart and all perceived benefits that might come with it, a lot of people also realize that "being thin" is not the same as "being lean" or "have a solid physical."
Indeed, this is something that a lot of people trying to lose weight do not realize, too, that "weight loss" automatically means "the loss of a muffin top" or "no more cellulitis." Those are things that only come with decreasing your body fat percentage, which includes a combination of loss of body fat and muscle mass development.
do not want to see "skinny fat" become a term that we throw around people in an attempt to shame in their bodies or manipulate them to do what otherwise might not want. Sometimes it seems that people use the term "skinny fat" as a way to return to a thin person or "thin people" as an amorphous mass of people. "Well, you're all worried about me, and you're fat skinny!" That's not good.
Nor is it something that someone should feel ashamed. It is a common condition among people of any and all sizes, and some people are able and ready to cope with it, and others are not. But, because of that we are talking about a lack of muscle, can and will become a problem of quality of life in the future.
But if you see someone refer to themselves as "skinny fat," is because they are realizing that "thin" is not the same as "poor" or "good shape" or " able to maintain a healthy quality of life through their senior years "and intend-to wait to take the necessary measures to ensure that detainees lose fat in a way that preserves the muscle , and build muscle in a way that contradicts what mainstream society says they like and want in a woman.
Can not argue with that.
