Dangers of drinking too much water
Guys, I used to be a Aquahalic
Yes, so there is such a thing as too much of a good thing, and I learned the hard way.
always hear
"Drink Up"
"Get your daily H20"
"Hydrate stay healthy"
Well I took water drinking to the extreme and certainly suffered the consequences.
Growing up we always said that drinking 8 glasses of water a day, and that the recommendation is not right.
According to this source , this common misconception comes from a 1945 Food and Nutrition paper said Board "Humans require about 2.5 liters per day, but the document also pointed get most of the fluid we need food and other beverages (fruit, vegetables, soup, juice, even beer - all loaded with water) "
However, for some reason, the second half of that message was lost, while " drink more water " part got stuck in the minds of people.
As a result, experts are worried now we have become so focused on staying hydrated we are guzzling water to extreme life-threatening
can happen if you drink too much water?
The thing is, though, when high water consumption is, as is his work (guilty), the amount of water in your body increases rapidly while sodium levels down, and as a result you may suffer a lot of unpleasant consequences.
One of which may be called Hyponatremia where serum levels of sodium in your blood drops to a dangerously low level
who experienced the negative symptoms that come along with drinking too much water and was hospitalized several times because of that error.
Symptoms of hyponatremia
-
Severe fatigue
-
The headaches
-
Nausea
-
fainting
-
severe mental Confusion
is not fun at all, especially in his last year in college.
I was in and out of the emergency room all the time are hooked up bags of sodium chloride leaving needle marks on his arms and bruises that made me feel like I had a drug problem, so it was not exactly a pleasant experience.
I also learned that salt is not the enemy
At least not the good guys of salt, like Rosa Himalayan sea salt and Celtic salt sea.
Your body needs sodium to function despite what every coach or magazine tells about how to maintain low sodium intake so do not hold water.
If you are working and sweating ( your sweat is salty because it is losing sodium ) and not replenishing the levels of sodium and electrolytes after exercise, as well as hitting the water like a crazy, can fall into dangerous territory.
If you are already eating a diet that is very clean, unprocessed and unrefined, then you most likely need to supplement your diet with additional sodium in the form of Celtic Sea salt (authentic) or some wonderful and delicious Pink Himalayan Sea salt !
I sprinkle that stuff around like its shine!
You can die from drinking too much water
Death by drinking too much water is definitely a real thing called overhydration .
If this occurs while overhydration that are exercising, you can quickly become a dangerous condition called associated with hyponatremia exercise (EAH)
When this happens, the brain cells swell and can cause the weak, knock unconscious or just drop dead. No thanks!
How much water should you be drinking to avoid hyponatremia?
According to this site
"needs liquids are dynamic and must be individualized from person to person.
factors such as gender, environmental conditions, the level of acclimatization to heat, intensity of exercise or work, age, and even diet should be considered ".
What this means is that simply listening to your thirst is the best way to gauge when to drink.
Another way to control hydration of the individual is looking at the color of urine after urine (sorry if that's TMI)
You want it to look like a lemon color or lemonade. If it is darker than have to go to drink a glass of water.
If you have worked hard to make sure you rehydrate with something like Liquid IV , which is how I manage to exercise and still feel hydrated.
One of my favorite bloggers time, Ms. Jordan also known as Younger The Balanced Rubio introduced me to this amazing product because she uses it to refuel during the tours!
How liquid IV I helped my hyponatremia
I noticed a big difference in my mental strength and total physical after mixing in Liquid IV with my water and immediately felt better.
First, hydrated up to 3 times faster than water alone, but is much better than water! IV fluid understand that when you are dehydrated or have little or electrolytes sodium can affect your athletic performance and not allow you to be your best self.
also it contains mined salt, because your body loses sodium through sweat and is an essential part of the unique technology of cellular transport Liquid IV It uses which is an optimal ratio of nutrients that helps his fast hydrate cells that only drinking water alone.
also has beet sugar, vitamin C, potassium and water white. It also has 5 essential vitamins that help your body recover as effectively as possible and normalize their vitamin levels. It has vitamins C, B3, B5, B6 and B12!
So do not hate salt, provided it is the good guy, and be sure not to drink more water your body physically needs. If you are thirsty, drink some water, but not what I do and Guzzle like it does its job 24/7.
Other types of liquids are also counted for the amount of liquid you need every day including broth, juice, etc.
Stay hydrated, but do not become a Aquahalic !!
XOXO
Harriet
