How I learned to love morning workouts

As 20-something living in a big city, squeezing in a workout is difficult . Some days it feels as if I had to choose between going to the gym or heading to happy hour - but I want both! Therefore, although I'm definitely not a morning person, he embarked on a mission to dominate the morning workout. But there was only one small problem. . .

For me, wake up before what is needed is a unique form of torture. It is as if he had an epic battle between my motivated self and my being lazy - a kind of tug-of-war between the comfort of my big, luxurious bed and energizing buzz gym. And though I felt like I was getting into the swing of things, sometimes you lose momentum and fight again. Still, I feel as if I had come closer to the conquest of this battle all-consuming, and the more you work it, the more I realize some tips and tricks that make it much more easy to successfully get your ass out the door. Armed with this arsenal of ideas, the morning is yours

1. Set multiple alarms

When I say set multiple alarms, I do not mean two - I mean five or six, to from half an hour before i want to raise. If I'm not in the habit of getting up early to go to the gym, my body is not ready for the rude awakening, and am hitting my repetition and lack of training. When you are just getting into the habit, bombard yourself with unpleasant alarms and know that while you are totally miserable at the moment, you'll thank yourself later.

2. Prepare everything the night before

shorts, check. sports bra, check. water bottle, keys. . . check, check. Stir about half delirious morning is not the most effective way to start the day. I found that when I can plan ahead and have everything ready to hand, is much more likely that I will do for the door and my spinning class 7 am to time.

3. Make it a date

Some days may be so difficult to get out of bed, especially when I know that there is nothing to prevent me stay snuggled under the covers. But when I know someone depending on me to show up, it is much easier to get out of bed and put the batteries. Convince a friend to who gather for morning run , and you will not be able to jump out.

4. cutting travel time

My gym, is a 10-minute walk from home (or scroll five minutes, if I'm ambitious ...), and the quick trip means I can sneak into every extra minute of sleep possible. From a longer journey would rise even before finding a gym that was literally around the corner meant to make an excuse of travel time was no longer an option. Even if a nearby gym is not an option, running outside or make a video in your living room can help sneak in a workout, no matter how short the time it feels.

5. Leave no escape

in my gym, enroll in a class and then no show is a big no-no that can lead to a ding in your account. So to get out of bed and in the gym, I started signing up for classes in the morning the night before. If I know that there are consequences for not showing up, it is more likely to wake up and put the batteries. If your gym is more lenient, make their own ultimatums. Living with a roommate or a significant other? They pay $ 5 if you sleep in -. When money is on the table, go to the gym will seem easy

6. Do not worry about a slip

Some days I miss the mark and they end up skipping my workout, especially after falling a bit too much the night before. It is important to accept that I will not make my goal every time. If you miss a workout, do not beat yourself up; just pay attention to what went wrong - you were up late last night? You just turn off the alarm instead of rising? Listen to your body, and learn from what did not work instead of bothering.

7. Plan a reward

call me crazy, but one of my favorite treats is a rich coffee refreshing milk ice cream. Since they can be quite expensive, I try to keep this delicious treat for something I like in a single weekend. But I've found that if I promise a slightly sweet, strong and milky cup of delight on the way to work if I hit the gym in the first place, it is easier for me to face the day knowing that a treat is coming my way.

8. Early Crash

okay, I admit - this is the piece of the puzzle that I consider my weakness. I am a night owl, and as hard as I try to go to sleep at 9 pm, I'll just turn in bed until my body decides it is ready for sleep, usually around 1:30 morning I found the work already adjust my schedule, it becomes easier, but there are still days I wish I was able to go through magic. I have learned to turn off the television and close my laptop an hour before jumping into bed seems to help, so be sure to turn off the screen when you're trying to go to bed earlier than normal.

9. Remember that the results

did not expect change my training routine after work to before they affect my mood all day, but I swear I have. Although it may feel faint out the door, once I sweated my tiredness in the morning, I leave the gym feeling serious energy and vigor. Perhaps endorphins, or maybe it's the fact that the day is full of possibilities - but I'm ready to start running. If you are struggling to find the motivation, just remember that you will feel the energy pulsing through your body as soon as you leave the doors and turn the rest of your day.
