Russian scientists create 'bio-cement "for human bones
A new biomaterial has been developed by the Russian scientist, who called "bone cement" which allow proper healing of broken bones. the way it works the whole process is that they use a 3D printer to print the cement cracks in the bones, which then dissolves completely when the bone turn regenerates missing.
the bio-cement was created through the efforts of the scientific team in a subsidiary of Nuclear University Research National Russian of Tomsk Region in Seversk (a city in Siberia), and the material used biological hydroxyapatite as its base.
Prof. Vitaly Guzeev issued a statement saying that "have created a material that the body accepts as an original. "the bio-cement have created is flexible and smooth before application, but it is difficult later, and the body does not reject it. Their discovery has important potential application in many types of surgery, including cosmetic and dental surgery.
"We have created a liquid material based on hydroxyapatite with a 3D printer can be filled" , the professor said. Other scientists hope their material can be used to match, recreate and fit the missing bone with the help of tomographic images pieces, and 3D printers precise specification.
The material was discovered quite accidentally by scientists. The team was working on a material that can speed recovery when applied to the prosthesis made of titanium, when they decided they need a material that does not have iron impurities, but is as strong as titanium.
"Bone marrow has mesenchymal cells in it, which migrate to the damaged tissue. They detect our material as something that can take part in the biochemical processes and begin to process it to enable [cell] division. as a result, a new bone is produced which has its own blood vessels and nerve cells, " explains Prof. Guzeev.
The material is made from all-natural materials, derived from animal bones. Its organic composition is what makes it easily adopted by the body and faster healing.
Once applied, its bio-cements new aid, the real bone tissue to be regenerated, with its own nerve fibers and blood vessels. The material is a much more convenient solution that titanium, because it does not require removal after healing takes place.
The material has been tested in animal studies, which show that it can help with healing of cracks and fractures. This led scientists to begin preparing the necessary paperwork for clinical trials, and expect soon to start production in St. Petersburg.
